This morning I had the joy of giving an interview to HRN, the largest and the most important radio station in Honduras, where I got to share something that means a lot to me — the reimagining of Utila’s tourism identity. For too long, Utila has been seen mostly as a party and diving destination, but we’re changing that narrative.

This summer, visitors will have the chance to connect with the island on a much deeper level — exploring our indigenous heritage, our layered history, our unique culture, and even our archaeological past. It’s about more than just travel; it’s about understanding who we are and where we come from.

What makes this journey even more powerful is the support it’s receiving.

Government institutions have stepped up to lend a hand, especially in helping us prepare the museum that will be located right in the heart of the island. Their collaboration is making it possible to bring real value to visitors — not just visually, but through knowledge and emotion.

And I have to give special recognition to the Municipality of Utila. The level of effort they are putting into this project is honestly beyond words. From logistical support to coordination and promotion, Mrs Nilda Lino and Mayor Alex Ebanks gone above and beyond to make sure this initiative succeeds — not just for tourists, but for the island’s own people. This is about reclaiming our story and sharing it proudly with the world.
