Caribbean Honduras

It began with an island girl in the city, and a question she kept hearing.

An island girl in the city

In January 2011, I moved from Roatan to the capital city of Honduras. People wanted to know where I came from: the way we speak, what we eat, who we are.

I realized most Hondurans had never been shown the islands I grew up on.

So I started to show them.

I began sharing the places I went on social media: beaches on Roatan that most people had no idea existed, because they only ever saw the tourist side.

The answer to every question was the same: come and see.
2016 HONDURAS MOCHILERA

A backpacker's blog

The posts grew into a real blog, Honduras Mochilera, which I started as a tourism student at UNITEC. I made friends with tourism students from other departments of Honduras, and those friendships took me traveling across the country.

Home, and a new name

Once I settled back in Roatan for good, I listened to what readers wanted most: the Bay Islands. In March 2017, Honduras Mochilera became Caribbean Honduras, devoted to the six Bay Islands: Roatan, Utila, Guanaja, Morat, Barbareta and Saint Helene.

PressDiario Tiempo published my article “El Pez León: La Epidemia de Nuestro Caribe”.

2018–2026 SINCE THEN

From a blog to a company

In 2018 Caribbean Honduras became a legally established company. Since then it has published a history book in two languages, a cookbook, free digital magazines and a children's book; brought national TV crews to the islands; created the Digital Tourism Exposé during the pandemic; and earned diplomas from National Geographic, through Go Blue Bay Islands, and from the Garífuna community.

Along the way came national awards from the Honduran Institute of Tourism, Mentorías Mujeres BAC and Fundación Terra, and today we are filming Hidden Wonders.
